Lariago (Chloroquine 250 mg)

Lariago™ (250 tabs) is a quality assured Chloroquine generic produced in an FDA approved factory in India. Chloroquine is a medication used for the prevention and treatment of Malaria.

Note: Chloroquine will cause Haemolysis in people with G6PD deficiency (this can be tested for). Although G6PD deficiency is rare in most people, it’s far more common in patients of Mediterranean descent at 1%.

Dosage for preventing Malaria (prophylaxis) :

Both adults and children should take 1 dose (500 mg) of Chloroquine per week starting at least 1 week before arriving to an area where Malaria infection is possible, then take 1 dose per week while there, and finally 1 dose per week for 4 weeks after leaving.

Dosage for treating Malaria is complex and is based on body weight :

People weighting 60 kg or more :
First dose : 1 g Chloroquine (600 mg base) orally
Second dose (6 to 8 hours after first dose) : 500 mg (300 mg base) orally
Third dose (once a day on the next 2 consecutive days) : 500 mg (300 mg base) orally
Total dose : 2.5 g (1.5 g base) in 3 days.

People weighting less than 60 kg :
First dose: 16.7 mg Chloroquine/kg (10 mg base/kg) orally
Second dose (6 hours after first dose) : 8.3 mg/kg (5 mg base/kg) orally
Third dose (24 hours after first dose) : 8.3 mg/kg (5 mg base/kg) orally
Fourth dose (36 hours after first dose) : 8.3 mg/kg (5 mg base/kg) orally
Total dose : 41.7 mg/kg (25 mg base/kg) in 3 days.
